  COTTON ROPE

Cotton Ropes are specialty ropes manufactured from cotton fibres which give them excellent softness and handling properties.

Cotton Ropes are designed for use in specialised industrial applications (requiring low strength and resistance to alkalis), as decorative items in the apparel and textile industry and in the manufacture of harnesses. Cotton Ropes can be dyed readily.

APPLICATIONS:
Halters
Fashion Cords
Driving ropes
Lead ropes
Horse blanket cords
Builder's lines
Lunging ropes
Girth cord
Bouyant heaving lines

Strength: Cotton is the only natural fibre whose strength increases slightly when wet.

Elongation:
At breaking load, Cotton Ropes elongate by 5-10%.

Energy Absorption:
The energy absorption capacity of Cotton Ropes is low. The ropes are ideal for uses where soft handling properties, low strength and elongation are required.

Abrasion Resistance:
Cotton Ropes, because of their soft handling properties, have excellent abrasion resistance and wear well.

Specific Gravity:
The specific gravity of Cotton Rope is 1.54.

Resistance to Chemicals:
Cotton Ropes are resistant to weak acids, organic solvents and alkalis.

Sensitivity:
Cotton Ropes are decomposed by sulphuric acid and are sensitive to other acids in general. Alkalis swell the fibre but do not damage it.

Reaction to Flame:
Cotton Ropes burn readily, are combustible and support combustion.

Storage:
Cotton Rope should be stored in a cool, well ventilated, dry store, never in closed containers.

Cotton Ropes should be stacked on wooden gradings or racks, or special coil pegs on stands. They should not be exposed to the weather or direct sunlight.

When storing Cotton Ropes, ensure that they are stored away from: racks of heavy objects whose inadvertent fall may result in damage to the rope; chemicals and other agents; containers that contain liquids which may leak; and sources of sparks.

Cotton Ropes should not be stored under conditions of high heat or excessively drying atmospheres.

Cotton Ropes should never be dried in front of a fire or stored near a stove or other sources of heat.
